focal sinusoidal obstruction syndrome caused by oxaliplatin-induced chemotherapy: a case report

چکیده
conclusions atypical irregular tumors should be considered as sos when the patient has received oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy. a qualitative imaging modality diagnosis, such as with diffusion-weighted mri, is superior to a morphological diagnosis in focal sos. this imaging modality can prevent unnecessary operations. case presentation a 40-year-old woman with rectal cancer underwent high anterior resection and partial liver resection of segment 7 due to synchronous liver metastasis. she received oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy (mfolfox6) as adjuvant chemotherapy for 6 months. a 13-mm irregular low-echoic mass was detected by ct in segment 3 of the liver 12 months after the operation. the mass was again resected as a liver metastasis because it had increased in size. the pathological diagnosis was focal sos, which showed sinusoidal dilation and congestion by hepatocyte trabeculae in the liver parenchyma. introduction sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (sos) is a severe adverse event of long-term chemotherapy in patients with colorectal cancer. it usually develops as liver congestion due to diffuse microscopic obstruction in liver parenchyma. in contrast, it sometimes appears as a liver mass occurring with local parenchymal hemorrhaging, and is often misdiagnosed as liver metastasis.

متن کاملSinusoidal obstruction syndrome after oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy
Drug-induced liver injury presents with extremely diverse histologic patterns, including necroinflammatory, cholestatic, steatotic and vascular patterns. Sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), also referred to as toxic sinusoidal injury, veno-occlusive disease or “blue liver syndrome”, is a commonly recognized vascular pattern of drug-induced liver injury, and has been frequently associated wit...
متن کاملPrimavist in the Diagnosis of Oxaliplatin Induced Sinusoidal Obstruction: A Case Report
This is a case report of a patient who underwent Oxaliplatin based neo-adjuvant chemotherapy for colorectal liver metastases, and subsequently developed sinusoidal obstruction, which was detected by Primavist enhanced MRI scan.
متن کاملMultiple focal nodular hyperplasias induced by oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.
Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is a benign condition that affects normal liver with low prevalence. Recently, the extensive use of oxaliplatin to treat patients with colorectal cancer has been reported to be associated with the development of different liver injuries, as well as focal liver lesions. The present work describes two patients with multiple bilateral focal liver lesions misdiagnose...
متن کاملHepatic Sinusoidal Obstruction Syndrome Induced by Non-transplant Chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), a serious complication that mainly occurs after hematopoietic-stem cell transplantation (HSCT), is caused by damage to the sinusoidal endothelial cells after the obstruction of the sinusoid. Recently, hepatic SOS was reported to occur after non-HSCT chemotherapies. This report describes a patient who experienced hepatic SOS after non-HSCT chemother...
متن کاملPathogenesis of FOLFOX induced sinusoidal obstruction syndrome in a murine chemotherapy model
BACKGROUND & AIMS Sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) following oxaliplatin based chemotherapy can have a significant impact on post-operative outcome following resection of colorectal liver metastases. To date no relevant experimental models of oxaliplatin induced SOS have been described. The aim of this project was to establish a rodent model which could be utilised to investigate mechanism...
